Maud Gatewood (artist)

Born and raised in Yanceyville in Caswell County, Maud Gatewood received her B.A. in Art from the Women’s College of University of North Carolina, Greensboro (now UNC-Greensboro), and her M.A. in painting from Ohio State University in Columbus. She traveled the world extensively throughout her life, taught at several universities, and lived primarily in Yanceyville and then in Chapel Hill towards the end of her life.
