A+ Schools of NC: Partnering to Learn through the Arts (Story)

Partnering to Learn through the Arts

The North Carolina Museum of Art and A+ Schools of North Carolina, a signature program of the North Carolina Arts Council, have partnered to create a series of educational programs and resources for teaching in and through the arts. Posters were printed of ten works of art selected from NCMA’s collection representing a variety of artists, time periods, regions, and styles. An arts-integrated lesson plan was developed to accompany each of these ten pieces. Explore these lessons using the links on the left of this web-page.

Throughout the 2019-2020 school year, thousands of educators across the state will receive poster sets and lessons to help strengthen the use of arts-integrated learning in their classrooms. These events include ArtsR4Life on September 7, the NCMA Educator Expo on November 7, and the North Carolina Art Education Association on November 8; additional events are still being confirmed. If you are interested in arranging professional development to receive these posters, contact Michelle Harrell at michelle.harrell@ncdcr.gov or 919-664-6853.

About A+ Schools of North Carolina

An initiative of the North Carolina Arts Council, A+ Schools of North Carolina is transforming education with the philosophy that the arts are fundamental to teaching and learning.  A+ supports schools in two extraordinary ways:

Whole-School Transformation.  Since 1995, A+ has been transforming the ways in which schools approach their work.  Our network of schools teach the state’s mandated curriculum in a collaborative, multi-disciplined way, with the arts woven into every aspect of a child’s learning experience.  Through professional development, technical support and mentoring, each A+ school develops a unique and creative school identity that elevates student engagement and achievement.

Customized Professional Development.  A+ creates and facilitates custom-designed professional development that supports a wide variety of effective classroom practices, strengthens school leadership and supports the development of engaging and creative school culture.  From a STEAM-based Educator Conference in Wilson to a training for Read to Achieve Summer Camp educators in Davie County, A+ can build professional development that meets your needs and supports the value of a creative education.
