view quick tipThe Museum is one of several community partners in Dia de Oakwood. Dia de Oakwood was born as a collaboration between organizers of the Day of the Dead 5K Angela Salamanca and Natalia Campbell, Oakwood Cemetery director Robin Simonton, and artist Peter Marin. Kristin Smith, manager of school programs, collaborated with Marin to develop curriculum and provide materials for artist residencies.
Join us for the Opening Ceremony for Dia de Oakwood.
Dia de Oakwood, was born as a collaboration between the organizers of the Day of the Dead 5k; Angela Salamanca, Natalia Campbell, the Oakwood Cemetery Director, Robin Simonton, and Artist Peter Marin. The intention with this event is to create an installation that celebrates all the traditional aspects of the Day of the Dead holiday, as well as create a new display for the community collaboration.
Opening Ceremony will include music, dance, food vendors, face painting and more. Attendees will hear remarks from Mexican Consulate, Claudia Velasco, Artist Peter Marin, Activist and Event Organizer Angela Salamanca and Oakwood Cemetery Director Robin Simonton
