John George Brown (artist)

At the height of his career, in the 1880s and 1890s, the British-born J. G. Brown was one of the most successful artists in America. He was especially praised from his depictions of the working-class children. Street urchins were his specialty, but the artist ignores the squalor and viciousness of urban poverty.
