Seydou Keïta (artist)

Keita was a photographer from Mali (officially the Republic of Mali, a landlocked country in West Africa). He was active from 1935 until 1977. He is known for his portraits of people. In 1962 he became the official photographer of the Malian government. Keita died in Paris in 2001. He preserved his photograph negatives, thousands of which have been saved and make up the majority of his publicly displayed work.
