Meet the Artist

About the MEET THE ARTIST Program

These FREE 30-minute virtual meetings on Zoom provide students the opportunity to meet a working artist and learn about their journey to becoming an artist, their artistic process, and some of their projects completed throughout North Carolina. The program will allow time for student questions at the end. Contact Kristin Smith to arrange a time with your class.

Current Artists to meet:

Meet JP Jermaine Powell

Meet the NCMA’s current artist-in-residence and learn about the inspiration behind his newly installed work as well as his ongoing contributions to communities across North Carolina through murals and public art.

Meet Gabriel Eng-Goetz

Gabriel Eng-Goetz is an artist, designer and creative director based in Durham, North Carolina USA. His work explores the cultural history of identity, including his own as an Asian American born and raised in the South, and our human connection to the natural world. Outside of creating artwork for clients and collectors, Gabriel works with his community to showcase and uplift North Carolina’s vibrant and diverse art scene by producing/curating events and working as a youth mentor.

Meet Hand in Hand (Andrew & Sarah McWilson)

Hand in Hand Creative are partners in marriage and murals. They live full-time in their tiny home on wheels, and travel across North Carolina creating public art through partnerships with communities. They are inspired to create work that speaks of and to communities, and are doing so hand in hand.
