Summer Institute for Teachers: Building Communities of Practice (event)

Teachers Participate in an Activity

The North Carolina Museum of Art is recruiting educators to become part of a community of practice. How can art help us build and sustain community through conversation? Learn more about the NCMA’s reinstallation of the People’s Collection, the NCMA’s approach to integrating art across the curriculum, and how you can spread the word in your schools. This program is open to educators of all subjects and grade levels. A $200 stipend will be provided and travel costs will be reimbursed for accepted applicants who attend the program. Participants in the Summer Institute will have many opportunities to continue to contribute to the NCMA Community of Practice over the school year. A certificate of participation for 12 hours will be provided (1.2 CEU, with approval from the local school system).

The Summer Institute is designed to deliver the following outcomes:

  • Teachers will feel supported by a collaborative community.
  • Teachers will be motivated and prepared to promote and share the NCMA’s resources and experiences for teachers and students.
  • Teachers will feel more prepared to facilitate conversations around issues of identity, place, and power.
  • Teachers will increase their understanding and awareness of arts integration strategies.

Application Process

Participation is based on an application process that will take geographic representation across NC, range of grade levels, diverse backgrounds, and commitment to participating in a community of practice beyond the Summer Institute into consideration.

Apply by May 27 for priority consideration. If room remains, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Once we reach capacity, applicants not selected for the on-site Summer Institute will have first priority for participation in the Virtual Summer Institute on the morning of Tuesday, July 26.
