Music Master Class: Nina Simone, the Life of an Icon (event)

In partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, North Carolina African American Heritage Commission, North Carolina Arts Council, and Come Hear North Carolina (#ComeHearNC), we’re planning a series of events that recognize the talent, legacy, and spirit of a beloved North Carolina musician.

Lenora Helm Hammonds, assistant professor in the North Carolina Central University Jazz Studies Program, leads a master classes for music enthusiasts, educators, teaching artists, and students. In Nina Simone, The Life of an Icon, Hammonds will deconstruct the music and life of Ms. Simone’s legacy, to offer a fresh look and understanding of what a woman in music endured through the journey from small-town North-Carolinian born pianist/singer to the international presence she became. Members of the NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble will join the workshop.

NCCU’s Continuing Education Department is offering 1.5 CEU certificates for this program. If you need CEU, be sure to follow the link on the Etix page to register with NCCU after purchasing your tickets.
