Discussion Strategy: Details in Motion (Quick Tip)

Details in Motion:

  • Divide students into small groups. Invite students to choose their favorite detail within the work of art or assign them a specific part
  • Ask students to create isolated movements with their body that connect with the detail they chose.
  • Ask each student group to share their movement and either have the group guess the movement or encourage them to perform several movement together

Guiding Questions for Discussion:

Following the activity, ask students to discuss what they noticed about the artwork during the exercise. What shapes and lines did they create with their bodies? Which adjectives would they choose to describe their movements? What specific aspects of the artwork connect with their movements? After this activity, what questions do they have about the artwork?
