Open now through March 7: Art and Science Online Minicourses (event)

Art and Science Minicourse Trailer Video

From January 10 through March 7, the NCMA offers educators a series of minicourses on the connections between art and science. Participants explore topics through inquiry-based learning in an online community while gaining valuable classroom connections. Each course is self-paced and should take around 3 hours to complete. All courses are available January 10 through March 7.

Each course is divided into three sections: Explore the Topic, Try Something New, and Share What You Think. In Explore the Topic, you will be introduced to new concepts, tools, and works of art to stimulate thinking and help you begin making connections between art and science. In Try Something New, we ask you to do some legwork to more deeply engage with the content and we introduce you to an artistic process. The Share What You Think section is exactly what it sounds like– sharing reflections and classroom ideas with your course colleagues so that you can maximize the benefits you receive from the course.

Course topics are as follows:

  • Art and the Science of Looking
  • Art and Systems
  • Art and Physics
  • Art and Ecology
  • Art and Nature

Courses are aligned with the K–8 North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Visual Art and Science. They are open to educators of all disciplines and audiences. Each course can provide a certificate of participation for 3 hours, and up to 15 hours if all five courses are completed. (0.3–1.5 CEU, with approval from your local school system). See more info on course topics here.
