Activity Idea: Soundscape (Quick Tip)
The Soundscape strategy invites students to participate in a multi-sensory experience in which they create a collaborative story based on sounds created in response to viewing a work of art. This strategy challenges students to focus on details within a work, respond to the work with their own creative interpretation, and build vocabulary.
How to facilitate Soundscape:
- Ask students to silently observe the work and consider all of the details
- Direct students to focus in on one specific detail in the work and imagine a sound that would pair with that detail
- Have students share their sound as a group, as individuals, by location in the work of art or orchestrated as a sound symphony
