11/10/20 UPDATE: All sessions are full. Tickets are still available to VITAL Health workshops open to the general public [link:], but we are not able to offer CEU credit for those sessions.

Offered: Tuesday, November 17, 4 pm and Tuesday, December 8, 4 pm (Pick one date to attend.)

Vital Health is an interdisciplinary interactive art initiative created by artist Stacey L. Kirby and consultant Michael S. Williams that helps address mental health and social and racial unrest in communities throughout North Carolina using performances, installations, and workshops. Educators will have the opportunity to reflect on how these issues impact their students and their own lives while engaging in a hands-on activity.

In this workshop, Kirby leads participants in a meditative flower-making practice while therapist Simone Jacobs (LCSW-C) addresses the effects of past traumas on our lives. Vital Health-affiliated artists discuss how these issues impact their creative process. Poet Johnny Lee Chapman III shares stanzas from his recent piece “Crisis Materials.” The workshop concludes with a video trailer of a Vital Health film featuring Chapman’s poetry, movement by Anthony Otto Nelson Jr., and wreaths made by community members. Participants are encouraged to drop off some of their flowers at the NCMA, where Kirby will incorporate them into a Vital Health wreath installation to be on view at a Teacher Tuesday this winter.

The free ninety minute session will be offered on two dates. It is facilitated through a secure Zoom link. All materials needed will be sent to registrants in advance. RSVP as soon as possible to secure your spot and ensure you get materials on time. Participants who complete a survey following the webinar are eligible to receive 0.15 CEU with prior approval from their school system.
