The Stories Art Can Tell, a Virtual Field Trip for grades K-12 (Tour Resource)

The Stories Art Can Tell

In this VFT, students will explore three works of art from the NCMA’s permanent collection featuring artists from groups that museums have historically excluded or under-represented.  Through reading the works by different featured artist groups, students will practice the social emotional learning competencies of self and social-awareness and relationship skills.  Choose from the following featured artists below or schedule multiple sessions to cover more groups!

The Stories Art Can Tell, featuring African Artists

Elementary students will “read” works of art from the permanent collection by artists from the African Diaspora and how each artist tells a story about community and movement while secondary students explore how each African artist tells a personal and communal story influenced by African traditionalism and African modernity.

The Stories Art Can Tell, featuring Black American Artists

Students will “read” works of art from the permanent collection by Black American Artists and how each artist tells a story through their use of art elements and media.

The Stories Art Can Tell, featuring Latin Artists

Students will “read” works of art from the permanent collection by Latin American artists and how each artist tells a story about their identity through images of place.

The Stories Art Can Tell, featuring Women Artists

Students will “read” works of art from the permanent collection by women artists and how each artist tells a story about their own identity and collective femininity through images of women.
