About

Elias Sime has been a formative persona in the Addis Ababa art scene since the 1990s. His place among the canon of Ethiopian contemporary art is well established. Sime’s formal roots can be traced back to global modernist influences seen in the work of Skunder Boghossian and other mid-century Ethiopian modernists, thus his work compliments the NCMA painting Night Flight of Dread and Delight from 1964. Sime’s dedication to the process of reclamation and recycling, which also binds his work to El Anatsui’s Lines that Link Humanity in the NCMA collection, has taken many forms.
