About

Born in 1971 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Beth Lipman earned her B.F.A. from Temple University in 1994. She currently lives and works in Sheboygan Falls, WI.

Technical tour de forces, Beth Lipman’s three-dimensional, glass still-life sculptures reinterpret art history, inspired by and often directly quoting Renaissance, Baroque, and early American still-life paintings. Her elaborate constructions play off of the symbolism inherent in traditional still-life painting, in which certain objects—wilting flowers, burning candles, half-eaten fruit, hourglasses, watches, overturned or half-empty goblets—represent mortality and the transitory nature of life on earth and material pleasures.
